Prior to a complete renovation this was an abandoned 19^th century three story brick building with stables in rear of the property. Only a few walls remained and the rebuilding required a total renovation to restore the buildings to their original splendor. Today the main building comprises three floors with high ceilings and beautiful light, thick brick walls, fireplaces and wood floors. The rear stables have been converted into units for residential/commercial use and share the same details and amenities. Both buildings are connected by a beautiful, blue stone garden with seasonal plantings and fountain. 89 James is located in the heart of Newark only a five minute walk to Broad Street Train Station and across from Saint Michael’s Hospital. It is zoned for both residential and commercial use but serves as the headquarters for Newark Now, a non-for-profit which organizes grass roots organizations dedicated to improving the lives of Newark residents.
